Challenge
During the evaluation phase (Challenge), you can trade freely even during high-impact economic events.
Funded Account
Once you access a funded account, trading during high-impact economic news is strictly prohibited, while trading during low or medium impact news is always permitted.
In funded accounts, all positions, regardless of the instrument or asset, must be closed at least 2 minutes before the official announcement, and no new trades may be opened until at least 2 full minutes have passed after the release.
Practical example:
If the US Unemployment Rate release, classified as high-impact news, is scheduled at 14:30, all your positions must be closed before 14:28 and you cannot open new trades until 14:32.
Checking the economic calendar
You can check the economic calendar directly in MetaTrader, under the “Calendar” tab.
High-impact news is marked with a red box in the “Priority” column.
You can also access the full calendar from the official MQL5 website:
Final recommendation
High-impact news can trigger sharp movements across multiple assets, even in those that may seem unrelated to the event.
During these periods, it is common for spreads to widen, stop-losses to trigger, or daily or total loss limits to be exceeded without time to react.
Although trading during news is allowed in the Challenge, even at this stage we recommend checking the economic calendar every day and adapting your trading to the expected volatility. This not only helps protect your account but also allows you to practice professional risk management with your future funded account in perspective.
It is the trader’s responsibility to be aware of relevant economic events before trading.
